The project “Development of a new generation of catalysts automotive efficient cost” (NEXTGENCAT) has positively ended his career last January 29 at the premises of the University of Lille with the last project meeting and final workshop related to catalytic materials for automotive application. This last meeting has aimed to share the final results of the novel catalyst compositions developed in this project, always with full or partial replacement of platinum group metals (PGMs), transition metal.
The ultimate goal of the project has been successfully achieved through the work of a very complementary partnership in skills and experience, getting positive results for new catalyst compositions nano-structured Automotive not only in relation to its efficient conversion of pollutants into harmless compounds, but with very favorable in the life-cycle assessment (LCA) performed each composition selected values. Specifically, they have developed several alternative efficient catalysts incorporating nanoparticles transition metals (Cu, Ni, Co, Fe, etc.) instead of critical metals in different porous supports. Thus, thanks to the variety of catalysts developed and effectiveness of these, has made an industrial-scale production of the last selected catalysts and have been able to validate its functionality through actual demonstrations in different displacement car for 80,000km.
More in detail, after four years of the project, the Lurederra Technology Centre has completed various technical activities among which the development and manufacture of active catalysts and catalytic promoters advanced based on simple and mixed nanoparticles; adequate dispersion of the Nanocatalyst, washcoat preparation and impregnation and fixing them on specimens of real ceramic monoliths. As for the scaling of the various catalysts, the technology company nanoproducts Tecnan has been one of the charge of doing thanks to its technology highly versatile and scalable pyrolytic production FSP, enabling a direct implementation in the market after the completion of the project .
