SUNRISE project, which addresses the recycling of Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) from laminated glass has started on 1st June and Kick off Meeting was held on 17th -18th of this month. The project is funded by the European Union under the programme H2020 and is coordinated by LUREDERRA.
Recycling of PVB present several difficulties related with the contents of glass, humidity, mixing of compositions and polymer optical degradation which impede reusing as interlayer. SUNRISE will demonstrate within the current glass recycling business the application of an innovative optical multi-sensor sorting tool based on industrial inline techniques and Artificial Intelligence algorithms. This sorting will allow that after mechano-chemical recycling, the different qualities of recycled PVB can be reused even in the application as interlayer film
This project will be executed in three years and a half and involves 20 partners from several countries. The project counts among others with glass recycling associations and companies, Lurederra as expert in the mechano-chemical treatment of PVB and experts in optical in-line systems. In addition, industrial partners will validate the suitability of the final products.
