After the first year of the European project MAREWIND, the consortium celebrated a meeting via teleconference the days 23 and 24 of November 2021, with the objective that each partner shared their results and show the progress in their work packages, concluding that the investigation is progressing according to the expected deadlines and objectives.
In the specific case of Lurederra, presented very promising results on the topics of anticorrosion and antifouling coatings. Related to anticorrosion coverings, it should be highlighted that the testing of pieces in saline mist chamber exceeded the 4000 hours of resistance, corroborating the efficiency of the coatings against marine environments. On the other hand, a considerable progress is being made with a corrosion predictive model in collaboration with IDENER, for estimating in advance, the useful life of the coatings. In the antifouling part, it should be emphasized the good anti-adherence properties of the coatings, and also the variety of the substrates where it has been deposited on, such as metals and polymers, which have very different surface reactivity.
Currently, the project is at the point where the focus is on the lab scale advancement and it is working with specimens of specific sizes of various substrates corresponding to the different parts of the offshore structures, such as metals, polymers, concretes, composites… looking for not only effects but also functionality. One of the principal objectives is to select the best alternatives which are now developing, for the next stages of the project.
The next general MAREWIND meeting has been set in May 2022, corresponding to the month 18 of the project course.
