After the launch of the FREE4LIB project last October, all the partners involved in the development of the lithium battery recycling process, started their first activities. On Thursday 9 of March, the first general meeting of the project took place, which was held online. Each of the participating entities presented their first actions carried out during the first 6 months of the project.
Despite being at the beginning of the development, the communication and interactions between the different entities are being quite relaxed and comfortable, making easy the shipment of raw materials (lithium batteries), as well as facilitating the sharing of information concerning the characterizations of the different components (cells, black mass, metals, plastics…). The initial progress related to used battery collection and its analyses, are the prelude to the next phase implying the key steps related to recycling treatments for the different materials and components recovered.
On the other hand, in terms of dissemination, one of the main focuses was the creation of a web platform. It has already been launched. It contains a brief presentation of the project and will be updated in parallel to the course of the project, publishing last results and objectives reached.
The next FREE4LIB meeting is scheduled for M12, and it is planned to be held in person at ALIÉNOR facilities in Belgium.
